What can I expect on my ocean safari?

With Trinity Eco-Tours, you’ll join a small group of adventurers on a guided two- or three-hour ocean safari, aboard a Zodiac with a knowledgeable, certified skipper.

Depending on the time of year you visit, you can discover a wide variety of whale species, icebergs, and other wildlife, including bald eagles, puffins, gannets, shearwaters, and different types of seabirds throughout the tour season. Not all wildlife is available throughout the year, whales are peak about the end of June to the middle of August, icebergs are here typically April to mid July, puffins are here from about mid May to mid September. We see whales and wildlife outside of these times but it is less frequent. Have any questions about what to expect, ask your skipper the day of or prior to your tour.

We always recommend following our Facebook and Instagram pages to give you an idea of what we are seeing. We try to post daily in season.

How far is Trinity from St. John’s?

Trinity EcoTours and Lodge is nestled in the heart of the storybook setting of Trinity, Newfoundland, a scenic drive approximately 2.5 hours from St. John’s. Fear not the distance, for the journey is a delightful adventure, brimming with captivating attractions and picturesque vistas to thrill enroute.

When is the best time to see whales?

The largest annual whale migration in the northern hemisphere starts off the coast of Newfoundland in early June, with various species gracing our waters until September or even later. However, it's during the warmer months of July and August when we witness the peak activity of these majestic creatures in our Atlantic waters.

Can I see whales and icebergs at the same time?

Depending on when you’re planning to visit Newfoundland, you may be lucky enough to experience a once-in-a-lifetime sight: icebergs and whales together. During May and June, the iceberg season intersects whale season, and you might be able to see both at once!

What vessel do you use when taking a tour with Trinity Eco-Tours?

At Trinity EcoTours, we navigate adventures aboard Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB), offering unmatched agility compared to traditional larger vessels. With intimate group sizes, our tours guarantee a personalized experience, allowing for optimal photo opportunities, closer engagement with our expert guides and skipper, and enhanced viewing encounters.

Rest assured, safety remains our top priority. Our RHIBs hold certification from Transport Canada as tour-operating vessels. Furthermore, we equip our guests with flotation suits to ensure a secure, warm, and enjoyable journey for everyone. While these suits are not available in children's sizes, children are provided with personal flotation devices. We recommend dressing smaller children in waterproof clothing, layers, and boots to keep them dry and comfortable throughout the excursion.

Hear From Our Guests

Our eco-friendly whale watching/iceberg tours by Zodiac and Kayak, and our ATV tours are the best in Newfoundland!  We offer beautiful  accommodations and an on-site restaurant. It's an experience of a lifetime!

This is hands down the best whale watching experience I have ever been on. In addition to seeing whales and puffins, Skipper Bob was exceptional. Great guide, full of stories and information and history of the region and an eagle-eye for whales! Thanks for an exceptional experience!

Highly recommend the lodge and tours! We spent 3 nights at Trinity Eco Lodge. Warmly welcomed each morning by Shannon who helped us arrange some tours as well as gave us pointers on places of interest in the surrounding area.

We had a great time on our sea kayaking tour. Darrell was a fun, informative and educational guide who made us feel super comfortable paddling on the ocean. We’d love to come again when the icebergs and whales are in town!

We had a wonderful experience doing the whale watching tour! We were thrilled to see two different kinds of whales and a very rare bird - the stellar sea eagle, as well as stunning coastal views. Would absolutely recommend this tour!

We had an excellent tour with Trinity Eco-Tours. We got to see whales, a variety of seabirds including the beautiful Atlantic puffins! But the highlight for me was finally being able to see the gorgeous Steller's sea eagle. She's currently the rarest bird in all of North America, and certainly amazing to see!

I did a 3-hour boat tour and it was incredible! Of course, the scenic beauty was breathtaking - you are out in the ocean where you experience the beauty and the force of nature.
